How to deal with the maintenance problems of cutting tools made of different materials?

May 09, 2024

To deal with the maintenance issues of cutting tools made of different materials, corresponding measures need to be taken according to the characteristics of various materials. Here are some common knife materials and their care recommendations:

Iron Knife

Iron knives may be very sharp when they are first purchased, but due to the large amount of impurities in the material, they are prone to rust and dulling, so they need to be sharpened frequently, usually once every half to a month.

Be sure to clean and dry it promptly after use to prevent oil and moisture from damaging the blade.

Keep the blade dry and avoid contact with salt water or other corrosive liquids.

If the blade has become wet with a corrosive substance, it should be cleaned with clean water, then dried and applied with a thin layer of oil.

Stainless Steel Knife

The material of stainless steel knives is relatively healthy, and due to the excellent element ratio, it is more durable and does not need to be polished frequently. Generally, it can be sharpened once every 1 to 2 years.

Although stainless steel knives are more durable, they still need to be kept clean and dry and avoid contact with corrosive substances.

Ceramic Knife

Ceramic knives are made of ceramic and are not suitable for handling hard objects, such as cutting bones or chopping fish.

Clean with warm water and neutral detergent after use, avoid using metal brushes or acidic detergents.

Avoid bumps or drops to avoid chips or stress.

When storing, avoid contact with other knives or objects to prevent collision or shaking.

Plastic Knife

Plastic knives are easily affected by vibration and may deform or crack. Therefore, vibration should be avoided during storage. Try to place them on a hard platform and do not stack them.

Plastic knives are not resistant to high temperatures and should not be used for high-temperature cooking or heating food, nor should they be placed in high-temperature environments.

Should be cleaned promptly after use to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

In general, knives regardless of material should be kept clean and dry, avoid contact with corrosive substances, and be stored properly to avoid collisions or drops. For tools made of different materials, corresponding maintenance measures need to be taken according to their characteristics to extend their service life and maintain their performance.
