What are the types of tool materials?

2023/02/07

In the stage of primitive man, people have not yet domesticated animals as their own food, so people's food sources are usually hunting activities and picking the fruits of plants. But because hunting is very dangerous, people have invented many tools to improve their hunting success rate. Bone knives are one of them.

Bone knives are knives made from animal bones.

Nowadays, people don't have to hunt in the mountains every day to have food to fill their stomachs, but bone knives have been inherited by people in another form, that is, knives. Today's knives are not just the knives we use to cut vegetables and fruits. There are many types of knives. Let's take a look at some of the main knives.

steel knives

The raw material of this kind of knives is steel, and today's steel knives are generally made of stainless steel. Its heat-resistant temperature range is between two hundred degrees Celsius and three hundred degrees Celsius. The knives used to cut vegetables and fruits in our families are generally steel knives. In the manufacturing process, emulsions are generally used to cool steel tools.

High Speed Steel Knives

Although the word "high speed" is just added, it is completely different from steel knives. High-speed steel knives are knives made of high-grade alloy steel. This high-grade alloy steel is generally composed of several chemical components such as chromium, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium. Its heat resistance is up to two to three times that of traditional steel knives.

High-speed alloy steel knives are generally widely used in the industrial field. High-speed steel knives can often be seen in industrial components with various geometric shapes and processes that require high continuous cutting.

Carbide Cutting Tool

This knife can be said to be a knife for cutting knives. Its heat-resistant temperature can reach up to 1,000 degrees Celsius, its hardness and toughness are more than one grade higher than that of high-speed steel knives, and it is far more wear-resistant than high-speed steel knives.

Its raw materials are tungsten carbide (WC), titanium carbide (TiC), tantalum carbide (TaC) and 5-10% cobalt.

ceramic knife

The temperature resistance and toughness of this tool, that is, the wear resistance, is a step higher than that of cemented carbide tools. The main components are alumina and carbide and some metals are fired in an ultra-high temperature environment.

Since it has high temperature resistance and wear resistance, dry cutting is mainly used in industrial cutting.

diamond tool

As the name suggests, this kind of tool is specially used for cutting. If a diamond-coated tool is used to process high-density glass fiber and carbon fiber, the service life is seventy times that of the sound-quality alloy tool. The disadvantage of diamond tools is that the diamond coating is relatively easy to fall off, and it cannot be effectively predicted.
